CANADA FALLS IN TWO GAME SERIES TO USA. ONE LAST CHANCE FOR PAN AMS REMAINS

Canada’s Men’s National Team fell to the United States in a two game aggregate series in Colorado this past weekend.

The matches were part of the North American and Caribbean Handball Confederation play-off qualification round for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

The heavily favoured Americans were just coming off participating in the 2023 world Championships where they won their first match ever in the competition en route to a 20th place finish in the final standings.

GAME 1: USA 40-17 Canada
GAME 2: USA 34-17 Canada

Eight teams will compete at the Pan American Games from October 21 – November 1 in a bid to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. To date, five teams have already punched their ticket to Santiago: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and the USA. Three spots in the competition are still up for grabs with two of them being decided at the Central American & Caribbean Qualifiers this summer.

Canada will have one final opportunity to qualify in the last chance qualification playoff tournament this August.

The Canadian women have already secured qualification into the Pan American Games after a 44-31 victory on aggregate against the USA. They will join Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay with three more spots still to be determined.

  1. Was a member of Belle River District High School teams back in the 1970’s. Then as an adult played for years with Club ABC in Toronto. A great sport. I really enjoyed it!
